Founding of the Club

In memorial of Tony Brennan who passed away January 2009 Tony was a player, captain in 1963 and founder member of NARUFC from 1959

In the summer of 1958, a group of businessmen who were associated with the town of Newton Aycliffe had a dream. They were keen rugby players and followers and, with some dedication and committed work, formed what we now know as Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club. We are based at the Newton Aycliffe Sports Club on Moore Lane, which is located off Shafto Way.

Facilities

Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club is based at the Sports club where pitches and changing facilities are available, together with the all important bars, where good, cheap beer is available. The club possesses a range of training equipment including a high quality scrummage machine, purchased last year, which can be used to teach a range of skills. The training of the senior players is provided, largely, by player/coach Bob Malvern, with the support of other members, a number of whom possess coaching qualifications.

The Rugby Club has a treatment room and a sports therapist in Sue Adams, who is available for on the pitch treatment and advice or treatment on training nights.

As of the 2007/8 season the club has obtained the services of a Fitness Trainer Goef Hymas more information can be found here
